Armed Forces Day

today was armed forces day and there was a big celebration at Wollaton park in Nottingham.

there were lots of stands from the army, navy and RAF. we got to play with guns - carefully tied down as you can see.

tank - they are surprisingly small inside.

tyler was loving the gun at his level and tried to look through the sights, but just pressed his head into the end instead. cute.

there were displays all afternoon. this one was a 1940s style cavalry display.

the flying gunners - royal artillery motorcycle display team.
they were very impressive and very entertaining.

they were accompanied by cilla the gorilla who performed stunts and made everyone laugh.
by the end they were jumping four cars.

these were the winners of the artillery gun race. those guns are very loud!!!!

it was all too much for tyler, he managed to sleep through half the fun.
fly by of a ww2 plane.

the parachutists - or should i say dots - on their way down. they came down to a flare in the display field.

i didn't think they would make it cos they seemed all over the place and totally out of control, but all four landed in almost exactly the same place. impressive.
however, across in derby today in another display, a para landed on top of someone in the crowd, breaking his leg in the process. glad we got the good lot!!
we had a great day. but it did remind me of the impressive and courageous job our armed forces do. so i'll finish on a thank you to all armed forces past and present for allowing me to live in a free and privileged country because they are willing to sacrifice their lives defending us. good job.
